FAQs

Explore our FAQs to find quick solutions and detailed insights into how Agoyu simplifies your moving experience.

Are these “Not to Exceed” estimates?

Yes. Agoyu requires all quotes to be not-to-exceed so customers can budget confidently and avoid bait-and-switch pricing. If a mover won’t bind the AI-estimated price, we require an additional survey to lock in the quote. This process is fully transparent and managed efficiently through the app.

Do I still need an in-home survey?

Usually not. About 75% of movers bind their quotes using Agoyu’s free patented AI technology. If a quote isn’t bound, Agoyu clearly notifies the user and requires a quick additional survey to provide a not-to-exceed price.

Do I have to wait on the moving company to receive a “final” price?

No. With Agoyu’s patented AI technology, most movers provide a binding, not-to-exceed price instantly. If a mover can’t bind the quote, Agoyu makes this clear right away and arranges a quick follow-up survey—so you always know your final price without long delays.

What type of estimates are the movers providing in the Agoyu site?

All movers on Agoyu provide not-to-exceed estimates. This means the price quoted is the maximum you’ll pay, giving you confidence to budget and protecting you from bait-and-switch pricing. If a mover can’t bind the estimate, Agoyu clearly flags it and requires an additional survey to lock in the final price.

What is included in the price when using a full-service moving company?

“Full service” means the moving company will come to your house in their moving truck, load your belongings, drive them to the destination and unload your items. Full service moving companies typically offer additional services as well, such as packing, unpacking, disassembling furniture and reassembling furniture. Of course, you can always box up your own belongings and have a full service moving company do the rest.

Do moving companies offer discounts?

Yes. When creating your profile, Agoyu’s AI asks a few questions—including your employer or affiliations—to automatically apply eligible discounts. Many movers on Agoyu offer special pricing for the U.S. Military, AARP members, and employees of major companies like Amazon, Google, Walmart, and more.

What is included in a mover’s quote?
Agoyu provides detailed, itemized quotes. Pricing is broken out for moving, packing, unpacking, and any special handling fees. The app asks if you’d like these services included and instantly shows the cost of each—so you choose exactly what to add to your booking.
Are there any other factors that may impact the quotes from movers on Agoyu?

Yes. Pricing is determined by weight, distance, packing and unpacking needs, special handling or third-party services (like crating), insurance coverage, and even the time of year. Agoyu’s technology makes these factors clear up front so you always understand what goes into your quote and how to get the best price.

I booked a move through your site. Now what?
You’ll receive documented confirmation of all details—weight, distance, price, move date, and more—both by email and in your Agoyu portal. You’ll also unlock your mover’s contact information (emailed and available in the app). The mover will reach out within one business day. If you need anything in the meantime, email us at [email protected].

Why should I use Agoyu instead of going directly to a moving company?

Agoyu is your advocate. We require movers to provide bound pricing, guaranteed dates, and proper insurance. We also document the condition of your goods by video to support any claims. If issues arise, simply contact Agoyu—we’ll handle them on your behalf. Movers who don’t resolve complaints are removed from our platform, giving you peace of mind and accountability every step of the way.

What is Agoyu?

Agoyu is a marketplace for individuals to obtain an estimate for the movement of their household goods by nationally accredited moving organizations.

How are your estimates calculated?

Moving costs are complex, but Agoyu makes them instant and simple. Using AI, Agoyu factors in details like your inventory, shipment weight and size, distance, date, and packing or unpacking needs. This data is sent directly to movers’ pricing engines via secure APIs, giving you fast, accurate estimates in real time.

How accurate is the estimate that is provided?

Very accurate. Most movers on Agoyu bind their quotes as not-to-exceed prices, meaning what you see is the maximum you’ll pay. If a mover cannot bind an estimate, Agoyu makes this clear and requires a quick additional survey to lock in a final, guaranteed price. This ensures transparency and eliminates surprise costs.

What is the Agoyu weight calculator?

The Agoyu weight calculator is a template that allows you to be as specific as possible with the details of your household goods, to receive the most accurate pricing with nationally recognized moving companies.

How does Agoyu decide which moving companies to include in my search results?

Agoyu only works with licensed, insured movers who meet our standards for transparency and reliability. Search results are based on your shipment details—such as size, distance, and services requested—and show movers able to meet your needs. We continuously monitor performance, and any mover that fails to uphold quality or resolve complaints is removed from the platform.

What do I do if something is damaged/scratched/broken during my move, or upon arrival?

Contact the mover right away and file a claim directly through their process. Agoyu makes this easier by documenting the condition of your goods before the move, so you have clear proof for your claim. If you run into any issues, our team is here to advocate on your behalf.

What if I chose a moving company, but want to change it?

No problem. Agoyu allows you to cancel or switch movers at any time. Just contact our support team at [email protected] and we’ll help you

What is the cancellation policy after I book a move through your site?

The cancellation is handled directly with your moving company after the bill of lading is composed and the in-home survey is complete. If you cancel your move after you book through us and before you take any additional steps, there is no charge.

What if the household goods I planned on taking with me changes?
Simply update your inventory on the Agoyu site by adding or removing items. The mover will automatically update the pricing, and all changes will be clearly documented—keeping your quote accurate and up to date.
What should I prepare for on moving day?

Be ready for the movers by having your items packed (if you didn’t choose packing services), boxes labeled, and walkways clear. Keep valuables, important documents, and essentials (like medications or a change of clothes) with you rather than on the truck. Make sure someone is available to answer questions, sign paperwork, and confirm final details. Agoyu will have already documented your move details and provided your mover’s contact information, so everything runs smoothly.

Is it required to tip a mover?

No, tipping is not required—but it’s always appreciated. If your movers provided great service, many customers choose to tip as a way to show thanks. While there’s no set amount, common practice is around 5–10% of the total move cost or $20–$50 per mover, depending on the size and complexity of the move.

How do I avoid being scammed by a moving company?

Use Agoyu. All movers on our platform are verified with licenses, insurance, and U.S. DOT profiles. Agoyu also requires not-to-exceed quotes, documents the condition of your goods, and guarantees pricing transparency. If movers fail to meet our standards, they’re removed from the platform—so you can book with confidence.

How do I know if a moving company is legitimate?

On Agoyu, you can easily access each mover’s profile to verify legitimacy. Profiles include years in business, affiliations (such as Yelp or BBB), and direct links to official state records through the FMCSA and U.S. Department of Transportation. This transparency lets you confirm credentials and choose movers with confidence.

How do I check a moving company’s U.S. DOT number?

On Agoyu, every mover’s profile includes their U.S. DOT number. Simply click it, and you’ll be taken directly to the official U.S. DOT site, where you can review the mover’s full history—including accidents, complaints, equipment inspections, and more.

What are the most expensive times to move?

Peak moving season takes place during the summer months. So if you’re planning to move between May and September, be prepared to pay higher prices for professional movers. If you do have to move during peak moving season, we suggest aiming for a mid-month, mid-week move. Demand for movers tends to be highest during weekends, as well at the beginning and end of the month. If moving during the winter months, you may also be able to save money by moving on a weekday as opposed to a weekend.

How far in advance should I plan and book my move?

We recommend at least three to four weeks in advance of your desired moving date. This enables ample time for you to pack, get an in-home survey, and confirm final details with the moving company. The more heads up you can give the moving companies, typically the lower the price due to scheduling constraints.

Do Agoyu movers have insurance?

Yes! Agoyu requires all movers on our platform to carry insurance. For domestic shipments, every quote includes Full Valuation Protection coverage up to $100,000. For international shipments, insurance is based on the declared value of your goods, and the mover will provide you with a customized quote.

Does Agoyu provide third-party service fees, like special packing or appliance disconnect/reconnect?

Yes. Agoyu gives you full transparency on these costs and lets you decide whether to include them in your quote. If you bid your move out, simply ask the mover to add any third-party service fees you’d like covered so your pricing is complete and accurate.
